2002 Syrah from Napa Valley

Jade Mountain produces wines that reflect the individuality and full-bodied style of its vineyards. After crushing the must was allowed to soak for several days. Fermentation at a warm 88° to 91°F was useful for setting color. As is traditionally done in France's Rhône Valley, a small amount of Viognier was co-fermented with the Syrah to add complexity to the texture and aroma. The wine went through malolactic fermentation in barrel, then aged in new French oak for almost a year.

Our Napa Syrah is a serious wine with a lovely fraise des bois aroma mixed with the smoky toast of the François Frères oak barrels. Ripe tannins will allow for early enjoyable drinking while the fruit is still forward, and the wine will become increasingly interesting and complex with age.
