2006 Syrah from Monte Rosso Vineyard Vineyard in Sonoma Valley

Price: $36.00    Review Date: 2009-06-05

Highly Recommended

VineSugar Review:

Deep, inky color. This wine is going stain some teeth, no doubt. The aromas are sultry. Ripe, freshly picked black berries, plum with undertones of rich minerals and hearty oak. The entry is wonderful. Inviting, smooth and starts with loads berries and vanilla oak nuances. The wine amplifies through the finish where it continues to release layer after layer of well integrated flavors. Chocolate, espresso, exotic spices all linger at great length. Fine tannins that provide incredible structure that will let this wine age with grace. Big elegance!

Winemaker Notes

The 2006 Syrah is our fifth vintage produced of this deep, luscious wine. Grown in the well-drained volcanic soils of the legendary Monte Rosso Vineyard, this wine is approachable now and will age well for many years. It has fondly earned the nickname “The Elegant Brute”. Very little Syrah is planted on \"Monte Rosso\" and Mark Oberschulte would know: his day job is vineyard manager there. Deep garnet in color; intense blueberry and blackberry aromas with undertones of chocolate and cedar. An elegant, beautifully structured Syrah, full of ripe tannins with loads of aging potential.
