History

Our inaugural release, Provenance Vineyards 1999 Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon, established the winery's style: an elegant yet powerful richness with deep, intense flavors that reflect the vintage and vineyard. With the 2000 vintage we expanded our family of wines to include Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon and Carneros Merlot. The 2001 vintage brought our first single vineyard wine, the Paras Vineyard, Mount Veeder Merlot. Rutherford Sauvignon Blanc, our only white wine, made its debut with the 2003 vintage. In August 2002 we acquired the winery known formerly as Chateau Beaucanon, located on Highway 29, for our home in the heart of the Rutherford appellation. After extensive remodeling and refurbishing of the property, we opened our tasting room, featuring a floor made of staves from our own oak barrels, in October 2003.

Winemaker

Throughout his three decades of Napa Valley winemaking, Tom Rinaldi has remained thrilled that his life’s work involves creating something beautiful to share with others. “It’s a privilege to work with the exceptional fruit from the Rutherford, Oakville and Carneros districts to craft the wines of Provenance,” says Tom. “I love everything from anticipating the vineyards’ seasons to experimenting with new technologies. I love the way we use innovative practices right alongside traditional methods. For example, even as we’re using recent technology for sophisticated vineyard mapping, we’re also evaluating grapes by that most time-honored of methods—tasting.”
