Silver Horse Winery Paso Robles

History

Moving to the Central Coast in 1996, the Kroeners operated Silver Horse from a converted barn for several years. In 2002, the family decided to embark on an extensive renovation of the existing operation. The result is a wonderful new facility; the winery includes a crush pad, production area, barrel storage, and case goods warehouse, while the stunning tasting room is unlike any other in the Paso Robles area. Situated on a hilltop overlooking hundreds of acres of vineyards, the tasting room features a sit-down bistro atmosphere, wood-burning fireplace, and elegant hacienda-style appointments such as 100-year-old ceramic roof tiles. Visitors are treated to breathtaking views of some of the Central Coast's most beautiful vistas, and -- with bocce ball and horseshoes, outdoor patios and several elegant indoor facilities -- the venue begs for special events of all kinds, Winemaker Stephen Kroener describes his hand-crafted premium wines as, "100-percent food-friendly. As a family, we're always looking to combine our love of food with our love of wine. As a winemaker, I want to create wines, whether they're varietal-driven or blends that have nice bright notes and a well-balanced structure that's sturdy without being overpowering." To that end, the majority of the fruit for the Silver Horse stable of fine wines will be sourced from the surrounding estate vineyards. Currently plantings include: Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Malbec, Garnacha, Petit Verdot, and recently Tempranillo.
