Don't deny us more images of Catherine Gachet!

Category: Ramblings and Rants

This is fuckin' incredible! Thanks to caveman for bringing this to my attention. First of all, its no secret that I'm fan of using sex in advertising. It also no secret that I love women in the wine industry... there' just something sexy when an attractive woman is a force behind a wine label...

When I heard France was creating an ad campaign with a woman as the face of Bordeaux, I was giddy to see whom. With Europeans being much more relaxed about sexual content more so than us uptight American, I figured we'd be in for quite a treat... It turns out though that France is actually just as uptight as we are!

37-year-old Catherine Gachet, a mother and small-scale wine producer, who was chosen as one of the faces of Bordeaux wine for a national poster and newspaper advertising campaign. A court has ruled in favor of wine pressure groups that wanted the pictures of Gachet banned because she looked ‘too sexy’ in the images and held the glass of wine too close to her lips.

"The whole thing is totally absurd," said Mrs Gachet, 37, a dentist's wife and mother of two who turns out up to 15,000 bottles of Clos Dady - mostly Sauternes

"Anyone who knows me would tell you that the first image was more like me than the one that was allowed, which had to be retouched by computer."

Retouched or not, this dentist's wife is one attractive winemaker. My God, why keep a face that gorgeous behind borders. Push those ads here in the states and watch European wine consumption increase quickly... Hell, I'm going to the store to find some of Mrs Gachet's precious creations!

Effective advertising. Its a shame the French banned it... could have been pretty damn successful.

Wow, that really is rediculous. I guess only Europe would be so uptight about the image of their wine. While Americans are typically more uptight about sex in general, I'd bet these kinds of ads would have no problem being published here.

As a woman, I did not find this ad to be offensive. In fact I saw a sharp, savvy, classy business woman.
